Time for Spring Changes!

Spring is about simple and that’s the décor path to take for this season. Simple touches throughout the home, through fragrance, flowers and other décor can last all season long.

Bringing in small touches that represent each holiday can make your home a fun and inviting place. Try these “spruce up for spring” tips to make your home feel like spring even in colder weather.

1. Out with the old and in with the new! New doesn’t have to mean brand new. Remove your heavy throws, rugs and pillows and bring out the thinner fabrics from last spring. Remove a few throw pillows; it will make your space feel more open and airy with less laying around.

2. Do some rearranging. Again, this tip involves using what you have, but in new ways. Move a chair or end table to a new spot in the room or remove it altogether to make more room in your home. It feels good to purge and make space again, making room for items you do want to add to your spring décor.

3. With your home or room now a clean slate, start thinking about the accessory items to switch out in favor of spring accents. Think floral, greenery and wicker instead of heavy leather.

4. When the spring holidays roll around, don’t forget to add those special touches you have that represent Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter and Mother’s Day.

5. What’s the final finishing touch that always gets you thinking spring? Fragrance of course! Gold Canyon’s Spring Holiday line of candles has you covered for every holiday or just a spring scent to use all season. Each of the four candles is so giftable and fun—you can buy one of each and always have a gift on hand.

Candy Hearts (Purple)
A tempting Valentine treat that includes hints of sweet strawberry, fluffy marshmallow, red raspberry and creamy vanilla scents.

Jelly Beans (Pink)
Sweet and irresistibly delectable, the fruity blend of strawberry, peach and pineapple together with creamy vanilla creates the wonderful goodness of this springtime treat.

Marshmallow Confections (Yellow)
Like the fluffy marshmallow chicks that are the must-have Easter treat, this fragrance is creamy whips of fluffy marshmallow infused with delectable spun sugar, a splash of fruity orange and tangy lemon zest.

Spring Posies (Green)
A bushel of fresh florals, light fruits and sandalwood brings the gift of spring to life!

Direct sales vs. Pyramid Schemes

A lot of people think that direct sales are a pyramid scheme, but it is not. To understand this, you need to know the definition of both.

Pyramid Scheme:
A fraudulent moneymaking scheme in which people are recruited to make payments to others above them in a hierarchy while expecting to receive payments from people recruited below them. Eventually the number of new recruits fails to sustain the payment structure, and the scheme collapses with most people losing the money they paid in.
(Provided by dictionary.com)

Direct Sales:
Direct Selling is the sale of a consumer product or service, person-to-person, away from a fixed retail location. These products and services are marketed to customers by independent salespeople. Depending on the company, the salespeople may be called distributors, representatives, consultants or various other titles. Products are sold primarily through in-home product demonstrations, parties and one-on-one selling.

Once you read through both of these, do they sound like the same thing?

Scent Blend - My Sweet Valentine

My Sweet Valentine
For an extra special Valentine’s Day, this blend of fruits and sweets will make your sweetie swoon. With such a wonderful aroma of candies and delectable baked goods, your sweetie will surely expect some of the real thing!

• 19 oz. Lemon Bar
• 14 oz. Candy Hearts
• 8 oz. Strawberry Shortcake

Scent Blending Recipes are carefully selected recipes of individual candles that when burning together, create their own unique, blended scent experience.

To maximize your fragrant experience, use the exact sizes and quantities noted in each recipe – a slight alteration can be like adding salt when you needed sugar.

FIRST: Arrange the candles on a heat-safe surface with the largest in the middle and smaller candles interspersed throughout. For votive and Tealight candles, use a holder to protect the surface.

SECOND: Place each candle approximately two inches apart in your arrangement.

THIRD: Light each candle and let the aromas mingle for at least 30 minutes to create your new fragrance experience.

30 second commercials

For anyone in direct sales, having a 30 second commercial that you can use when talking to people is important. It is boring to say that you sell candles, and really doesn’t tell people anything. But saying something such as you help empower women by assisting them in starting a business and making money sounds much more impressive and gives someone something to ask you about to get the conversation rolling.

Do you have ideas for a great 30 second commercial, or even just some great power words?

Why start a business?

Why people get into direct sales or any other business?

A lot of people don’t just get into direct sales to make money, and that may not even be their first concern. They get in because they are looking for something:

Adult companionship - Maybe someone is a full time stay at home mom and just wants something to do to get away from their kids for a few hours and have some adult conversation.

Skill Set – A person may have leant a certain skill set but not had a chance to use it. Direct sales can allow a person to get out and use this skill.

Self esteem – Sometimes people feel that there is nothing that they can do or that they are not worth it. They can get into sales and really make a difference. Maybe it isn’t in money, but helping someone improving their life, its amazing how that can make you feel.

Fun – You will find the occasional person who got into direct sales just to have a bit of fun!

So what is your reason and what is holding you back?

Types of Consultants

Are you interested in becoming a Gold Canyon candle consultant, but aren’t sure if you will fit in? We have all sort of consultants!

Hobby – This hobby consultant does one or two parties every few months, just enough to keep her active and maintain her discount. She is mainly in this for the personal discount, and to make a few dollars.

Part time – This is a demo that does several parties a month. She could be in the business to make a bit of extra income for bills or just for some fun. She should easily be able to make $500 a month just by doing a party a week, or four a month however it fits her schedule.

Full Time – The full time demonstrator is the demonstrator that is hosting as many parties a month as she can to maximize her earnings. She could be someone who is trying not to return to work after maternity leave, or someone who was downsized and is trying to replace her income. This lady has a “can do” attitude!

Do you fit into any of these categories? Talk to me about joining Gold Canyon today!

Setting Goals

Setting goals is important in whatever you do whether it is direct sales, school, work or just your personal life.

There are several things that you should be doing to help you attain your goals:

Write down what you want to attain and by when

Write out a plan of how you are going to attain these goals

Schedule time in your calendar to work on the goals.

And get at it!

Of course, this is a very simple version of goal setting, but it’s a place to start with.

Why Cats and Candles do not Mix

I received some candles the other day for customers.  I put them on a high counter that I did not think my cats could get onto, as I planned to deliver them the next day.  Later that evening, I heard a crash!

That was what I heard.   Kitty definitely got scolded, but I'm not sure he really understood.

Can I put Candles on my Pod Warmer?

Dear Maven,
Is it safe to put the Heritage®, Bella®, Inspirations or any other Gold Canyon glass candle on the Pod Warmers to use up any last remnants of the candle wax or will the temperature of the Warmer be too hot for the glass? I have several customers who tell me they do this and I want to be able to warn them if there could be any hazards.

To make a long story short and answer your question, no, the heat is not too much, but, and this is a big BUT, the quality of the fragrance won't be what your customers are expecting and definitely not what they deserve from Gold Canyon.

Gold Canyon has a patent on the Scent Pods® and Warmers, a product for which we painstakingly ensured that the Pod Warmer, Scent Pod container and fragrance all play nice to create a quality experience for you. Any time a different type of product is used, it has the potential of resulting in a flawed experience.

I know, I know—everyone is trying to be super thrifty nowadays, but this isn’t one of those times to reuse. Just not worth it.

Keep the following info in your back pocket for next time your customers ask you about that remaining wax they are trying to use: The last remains will contain the wick adhesive (not designed to smell good, by the way) and will have wick and other debris which will impart a smoky smell and not look very pretty either. This certainly doesn't showcase the excellent fragrance quality for which Gold Canyon is known.

After interviewing the experts in Research and Development, the best advice I have is to tell your customers to just throw away the last bit of wax and be happy knowing this is a safe and very reasonably priced candle. That last bit of wax is your safety insurance policy and it has done its job, holding all wick debris and keeping the bottom of your candle from getting too hot and bursting.

If you must, you can suggest to these customers that they use the warmers to melt out the last bit of wax in their jars, BUT (notice that’s another big BUT) they must realize this is a cleaning process and not a fragrance experience.

Looking out for your best interest,
Maven

Is Homeology Anti-bacterial?

Dear Maven,
We are loving all of the new green cleaning products but a couple of questions arise. Is the All Purpose Cleaner anti-bacterial? The kitchen counters are shining, but can I eat off of them?

No, Homeology products do not claim to be anti-bacterial products. The reason? We love Homeology for what it was intended for—a natural, safe way to clean without harsh chemicals.

To kill germs you can bet there has to be some pretty heavy stuff involved. By law, any product claiming to be an anti-bacterial product must use specific active ingredients. We did not want to use those type of ingredients in Homeology products as they can be much too harsh for everyday use. And harsh is being polite—I’ve used some of these anti-bacterial products and I wish I’d brought a biohazard mask to save me from the fumes.

The only time I would recommend using those harsher chemicals is when cleaning up after you’ve worked with raw meat. (But only in the areas needed and only as needed.) Otherwise, think of Homeology as your main squeeze when it comes to everyday use and for clean-ups from spills.

We have chosen Homeology to be a well-balanced blend of cleaning with minimal chemicals and impact on the environment. Bonus: Homeology smells great, too. And yes, Homeology is non-toxic so you can eat off your counters after you spray them.

Happy Homeology cleaning,
Maven

Why a Gold Canyon Candles Fundraiser?

Watch the posts for the next few days as I review the fundraiser program. This is information taken from our website.

Strong Fragrance. Strong, true-to-life fragrances. The fundraising rub-to-discover Seller Packet each seller will use provides an easy reference to the fragrances available for purchase.

Double Wicks. Double wicks ensure an evenly burning candle so there is no messy, residual wax left on the walls of the candle jar. Safety Features. Each candle wick is fitted with a safety collar, causing the candles to self-extinguish at the appropriate safety level. In addition, our unique cool wax formula is warm to the touch and will not burn the skin if a candle is accidentally bumped or turned over.

Decorating Using Old to Look New

Decorate Your Home With a New Look Using the Old!

Redecorate by Repurposing

You can give your home a new look without the new furnishings by simply “redecorating” and repurposing some items already in your home. You can add a new look and organize your home in every room without spending a dime!

Try these ideas for a fresh look and a more organized home:
1. Turn containers into unique holders or accent pieces. You can use empty jar candles, candle holders, candle accessories or Scent Pod™ containers as places to store supplies in the office; as food containers for candy, spices, flour, sugar or tea bags in the kitchen; as storage for buttons, safety pins or craft items in the spare bedroom; as everyday containers for storing cotton balls, soaps or cotton swabs.

2. Repurpose an old wicker basket by putting it in a different room and using as an accent piece on a table or on the floor. Try using it to store items you’d rather have out of sight like hand weights, incoming mail and toys or use it to hold toiletries on the bathroom counter, reducing your clutter.

3. Make kitchen storage stylish. Make space in your kitchen cabinets by instead displaying pretty dishes on countertops and cabinets and using them to store items needed at hand.

4. Start saving! Your empty jar candles are the perfect place to store all that extra change. Make a coin jar for everyone in your household and even make your own label with their name and what they are saving for.

5. Make a last minute gift. When you need to have a gift quickly or want to give something homemade, reuse your glass candle jars by creating your own recipe of cookie mixes, salsas or soups. Add a recipe label and a bow and your gift is complete!

Search your home for your old candle jars, candle holders, candle accessories, baskets and other items to repurpose and you’ll instantly feel more organized!

Creating a Candle Garden

A candle garden is essentially a group of candles put together in a cluster, on top of something, such as a decorative plate. You put your candles together on it, and then arrange other items around the base. This is a great centerpiece for a table, on a mantle place, or anywhere else you want to put some interest.

You will want to get pillar candles in a variety of heights to give your garden some interest. Votives will also work nicely, and you could put in a few tealights depending on the look you are going for.

Variations:
Fill a planter with votives, and make it look like the votives are “growing”
Holiday version – have the items on the base be holiday related
Group holders together, and tie them together with the base decorations

Welcome Ashley!

I would like to welcome Ashley from Saskatoon to my team!  Welcome!

Using Candles at a Wedding

Candles seem to go hand in hand with weddings. Some places have restrictions on flames so make sure you ask your venue when planning something with a flame. You can also do some wonderful things without lighting the candles.

Favours – This is a great use for votives or tealights, as they are relatively inexpensive. To dress them up, you could wrap them in tulle, or put in a little tulle bag, with a note saying thank you for coming to our wedding, or anything else you want to communicate to your guests.

Cake Table – Most people decorate their cake table, so why not use a candle to help? A pillar would probably be best here, or votives or tealights. You can set it up and also put rose petals, or other confetti decorations all over the table. Having the height of the candles will add interest.

Centerpieces – What you will want to use will depend greatly on your budget. A common use is to set a candle on a mirror, it reflects the flame and creates and elegant look. Or using several size pillars together can create a great effect as well.

Hurricane Candle Holder – This is a great centerpiece idea. You can fill with something that reflects your wedding, such as sand, if you are having a beach themed wedding. It can then have candles nestled into the sand.
