Uses for Empty Jars

Uses for Empty Jars:

Decorations – Your imagination is the limit on this one.  Put rocks in the bottom, or fish tank pebbles, or any number of other things.

Plants – You could plant something small in one of these.  Hmm.. Maybe I could grow some kitty catnip!

Artwork - Layer sand, or other items into your jars.  Best with one that you can put the lid onto.

Bathroom Storage - Fill with cotton puffs, hair pins, whatever else floats around on your counters.

In the Kitchen - Some of the jars would make great drinking glasses!  (make sure they are well cleaned first)

Candy Jars - Enough said

Empty Scent Pods - Great to store small items like paperclips or craft supplies.

How to Clean your Jars Out

Be thrifty, be green. Salvage glass candle jars and make them purposeful again turning them into unique holders or accent pieces. You can use empty jar candles, candle holders or candle accessories containers as places to store supplies in the office; as food containers for candy, spices, flour, sugar or tea bags in the kitchen; as storage for buttons, safety pins or craft items in the spare bedroom; as everyday containers for storing cotton balls, soaps or cotton swabs.

1. Only use this method of cleaning when 1/2” or less of wax remains in a candle jar. Turn oven to 200 degrees, place candle jar on a baking sheet and warm in the oven for 30 minutes or just until wax is liquefied. CAUTION: Candle jars will be hot to the touch.

2. Pour wax into a disposable heat safe container. Use a disposable towel to wipe out any remaining wax in the candle jar.

3. Squeeze Wax Remover into candle jar; wipe clean.

4. Spray candle jar with Gold Canyon’s natural cleaning product, Homeology™ All Purpose, rinse in hot water and dry.

More Decorating Ideas

With the season upon us shortly, and people already doing holiday entertaining, I thought I would post a few more ideas.

-         Hang garland around the door frames
-         Candle in a votive holder (or a jar candle) and surround with holiday greenery
-         Dish with various fall items in it – pine cones, cinnamon, cloves - make the air smell like the holidays
-         Put a candle in front of a mirror for a nice warm look
-         Pine tree air fresheners (not the ones you put in your car!) around the tree if you have an artificial one

Candle-User Preferences

Consumers are increasingly purchasing candles as a focal point for their home décor, and for aromatherapy-like relaxation and stress reduction.

Fragrance is by far the most important characteristic impacting candle purchases today, with three-fourths of candle buyers saying it is “extremely important" or "very important" in their selection of a candle.

The majority of U.S. consumers use their candles within a week of purchase.

Nine out of ten candle users say they use candles to make a room feel comfortable or cozy.

Approximately three-fourths of candle users say they typically burn candles for 4 hours or less per sitting.

Candle users say they most frequently burn candles in the living room (42%), followed by the kitchen (18%) and the bedroom (13%).

Approximately one in five women say they use candles to decorate the yard, patio or other exterior areas, as well as the interior of their home.

Both men and women consider candles to be an always-acceptable and highly appreciated gift for a wide variety of occasions.

Candle purchasers say they view candles as an appropriate gift for the holidays (76%), as a house warming gift (74%), a hostess/dinner party gift (66%), a thank you (61%) and as adult birthday gifts (58%).

Other Uses for Jars

With the Holiday Season approaching, there are lots of ideas for re-using things you already have.

What about using a jar to put a recipe in?
http://www.allfreecrafts.com/giftinajar/index.shtml

http://www.christmas-cookies.com/recipes/giftsinjar.html

You could organize craft supplies, especially things that are too large for other craft type containers.

How about using these in various rooms for storage?  In the bathroom they could hold cotton balls, the family toothbrushes, or any number of things.  If you like to have candy or snacks out, convert into a candy dish.

At the front door you could use it for car keys or extra money floating around in your pockets.

The possibilities are endless!

Holiday Gift Ideas

Get a mug and fill it with tea lights, bookmarks, auto-fresheners, or any combination of products.   You probably want to toss in a few packages of hot chocolate, apple cider or any other favorite drink powder.
New to Gold Canyon?  A Variety of candles – I recommend 5 oz. , a wick dipper and a wick trimmer.
Buy the Holiday Tidings set, split into three.  Fill with a variety of tea lights, bookmarks, etc.
Popular scents:
Holiday – Mulled Cider, Holiday Wreath, Peppermint Bark
Regular – Sugar Cookie, Pomegranate, Fresh Orange

So what’s the big deal about Candle Care?

Well, it depends.. do you like your candles to burn clean?  Do you like to smell them, and not the smell of soot?
I figured as much.
When your candle wicks get too long, they start to burn too hot.  As a result, they burn faster and your candle doesn’t burn as long.  As well, they start putting out black smoke which can turn your jars black and just doesn’t look attractive.  The extra heat can cause tunneling as well, and this shortens the life of your candle as well.
So you want to trim your candle wick to ¼” before you start to burn them.  You don’t want to burn them more than 4 hours, but you should burn them long enough that the entire top of the candle is melted, for best results.  If you want to burn the candle for more than 4 hours, extinguish it first with your dipper, wait for the wax to solidify, trim the wick, and re-light.  As the candle burns, the wicks do get longer, which is why this process is needed.
Now, what’s a wick dipper?
Well,  its this neat little thing that you use to extinguish your candle.  You know when you blow out a candle, all your smell is the nasty burnt smell?  And if you try to snuff a candle, you never know how long to hold the snuffer?  Well, with this.. you just bend the wick over into the melted wax, and then pull it back out to stand straight.  Simple.  Your candle is coated for an easy light next time.

Gold Canyon Candles

I joined Gold Canyon Candles in November 2008, after being with some other direct sales companies and not making too much progress. A year later, I’ve made manager, had an all expenses paid trip to Arizona for training, and even made a few dollars in the deal! You’ll see the odd post here in regards to my business, but I don’t want it to be just about it. You guys don’t want to read an advertisement.

But you can check out my website at http://mygc.com/skcandles ... I’m always looking for customers and new team members.. :)
