Candle Uses Other than to Burn

Unstick a drawer
If you have a desk or chest drawer that sticks, remove it and rub a candle on the runners. The drawer will open more smoothly when you slip it back in place.

Make a pincushion
A wide candle makes an ideal pincushion. The wax will help pins and needles glide more easily through fabric too.

Weatherproof your labels
After you address a package with a felt-tip pen, weatherproof the label by rubbing a white candle over the writing. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will smear the label now.

Scents - Orange

Scent of orange: It has a perky, lively, and distinctively orange scent. The related tangerine is brighter and sweeter, while petitgrain is harsher, sharper, and considerably more herby or “green.”

Therapeutic properties of orange: Sedative; relieves muscle spasms, cramping, and indigestion

Uses for orange: Orange’s greatest claim to aromatherapy fame is its ability to affect moods and to lower high blood pressure. In fact, just sniffing it lowers blood pressure a couple points. It is also a good adjunct treatment for irregular heartbeat. Research at International Flavors and Fragrances, Inc., in New Jersey found that orange also reduces anxiety. You don’t even need to buy the essential oil; simply peel an orange and inhale its aroma.

Energy of Orange

While red is associated with fiery heat, orange is associated with the benign warmth of the sun. A dynamic color to be sure, orange offers a more thoughtful control than explosive red. Curiosity is a driving characteristic of orange, and with it comes exploration of new things.

Put some orange in your life when you want:
• to spice things up when you feel time is dragging
• to become more involved in something
• to increase creativity
• relief from things becoming too serious

Quote - Candles

I remember when the candle shop burned down. Everyone stood around singing 'Happy Birthday.'

Summer Decorating

It’s that time of year again—are you ready for your summertime barbeque?

An easy way to create a beautiful ambiance for your party is by including a centerpiece on your main table and by adding candles for fragrance and lighting. These two subtle touches can make for charming party décor!
  • Subtle Lighting: If your party or barbecue is later in the evening, you can place candles and lanterns around the party perimeter, for subtle lighting. Gold Canyon’s Liberty Lantern, Leaf Lantern and Mini Lark Lanterns include a stand that’s good for using when you place it on a table. Or you can simply remove the lanterns from their stand to hang anywhere you’d like.

  • Dramatic Lighting: Multiple votives or tealights always make for a more dramatic effect and make your space feel more elegant. The Iron Votive Centerpiece is a good choice for dramatic lighting or simply place candles inside the Straight Votive Glass candle holder and place them throughout the party. For daytime events, this is a good way to disperse a wonderful scent!

  • Fragrance Focus: Want your guests to walk in and instantly get that smell of fragrance and be wowed? Try using large 26 oz. candles as centerpieces on each
of your tables and in the main areas of the party. Try a “summery” fragrance like Fizzy Pop, Casaba Melon Sunset, Coconut Mango Breeze, Grapefruit Splash or Grass.
Ahhh…summer is here!

Where Does Candle Wax Go?

Question: Where Does Candle Wax Go?

Answer: Have you ever noticed how you have less candle after burning than before? This is because the wax oxidizes (burns) in the flame to yield water and carbon dioxide, which dissipate in the air around the candle, in a reaction which also yields light and heat. Candle wax (paraffin) is composed of chains of connected carbon atoms surrounded by hydrogen atoms. These hydrocarbon molecules can burn completely. First the heat of the flame vaporizes the wax molecules and then they react with the oxygen in the air. As long as the wax doesn't melt away from the flame, the flame will consume it completely and leave no ash or wax residue.

Colour - Orange

Orange is vibrant. It's a combination of red and yellow so it shares some common attributes with those colors. It denotes energy, warmth, and the sun. But orange has a bit less intensity or aggression than red, calmed by the cheerfulness of yellow.
Nature of Orange:
As a warm color orange is a stimulant — stimulating the emotions and even the appetite. Orange can be found in nature in the changing leaves of fall, the setting sun, and the skin and meat of citrus fruit.
Culture of Orange:
Orange brings up images of autumn leaves, pumpkins, and (in combination with Black) Halloween. It represents the changing seasons so in that sense it is a color on the edge, the color of change between the heat of summer and the cool of winter.

Dear Maven - Fine Fragrance

Dear Maven,

I am so excited that Gold Canyon now offers the Boutique Chic™ Fine Fragrance Collection! What is the best way to help my customers determine the fragrance that will suit them the best?

Just as our Fine Fragrance personality quiz states, nothing is lovelier than finding the perfect fine fragrance! First, I just have to say I am so proud of Gold Canyon for creating such wonderful eau de parfums—don’t you just love ‘em? Anyway, back to your question. Our personality quiz (found on the Show & Sell Sheet at Essentials OnLine) is my favorite way to help my friends find their ideal scent, but I have a few other things up my sleeve to help you out.

• Let them smell each one, allow to dry-down and smell again.
• Use the Show & Sell Sheets to compare what they currently wear with a Boutique Chic Fine Fragrance and offer one in the same fragrance category.
• Refer to the Product Knowledge Guide and Essentials Online.

I hope that helps. What I don’t want you to do is morph into one of those annoying fragrance testers we sometimes find at the mall—no one wants to be sprayed without their consent!

What is your favorite product?

Believe it or not, it isn’t the candles.  I love the Homeology products.  I will tell you right off the bat, I am not a cleaner.  Never have been, never will be.  Wish I was.  The Homeology products are our natural cleaners.  They smell wonderful – no opening your window afterwards to get rid of the chemical smell.  And now that I have two kitties running around my house, I don’t have to worry about what they may lick off the floor.
