Make a Secret Drawing

Have a child make an "invisible" drawing with a white candle. Then let him or her cover it with a wash of watercolor paint to reveal the picture. The image will show up because the wax laid down by the candle will keep the paper in the areas it covers from absorbing the paint. If you have a few kids around, they can all make secret drawings and messages to swap and reveal.

Cranberry Candle Wrap

These flexible cranberry garlands can be wound around candles, candlestick bases or even chandeliers.
Supplies:
• 4-6 clear martini glasses or wine goblets
• 1 340 g bag Ocean Spray® Fresh Cranberries
• 4-6 votive candles*
• Greenery or flowers, if desired

Directions:
Cut wire to desired length. Pierce the wire into the center of a cranberry. Continue threading berries, bending wire into various shapes as you go. Bend end of wire into a loop, and wrap completed wire around candle, base of candlestick or other desired objects.

If desired, alternate cranberries with other items like wooden beads, acorns or pinecones. (Make a small hole in these items with a thumbtack or power drill before threading. A very fine bit should drill a hole just wide enough for the wire to pass through. Place paper towels on the work surface to catch debris. Use pliers to hold the item securely at a slight angle rest the pliers against the paper towels temporarily so the drill can "bite" into the item where desired. Raise the pliers from the work surface so the drill can get through.)
Dispose of garland after a day or two, before berries get soft. To prolong the life of the garland, try spraying shellac on the cranberries after stringing them. To avoid staining, do not place the garland directly on lightly-painted surfaces or linens.

Meaning of the Color White

White projects purity, cleanliness, and neutrality. Doctors don white coats, brides traditionally were white gowns and a white picket fence surrounds a safe and happy home.

How the color white affects us mentally and physically
* aids mental clarity
* encourages us to clear clutter or obstacles
* evokes purification of thoughts or actions
* enables fresh beginnings

Create Aroma for your House

Scents take an important place in our perception of outward things. Often they are associated with some events and feelings. Childhood and mother have their own scents

House-plants will help you to create a unique scent of your house.
It’s just important to choose aromatic plants for each room correctly, as scents affect health and create mood. Some calm down us, others, to the contrary, hearten us. Meet aromatic plants, their amazing qualities and find your own one, dear and unforgettable.

Scent from childhood
The most popular aromatic plant, known to us since childhood, is Pelargonium odoratis (apple geranium). For a long time it was placed in bedrooms to improve sleep. All kinds of this plant have absolutely different scents: roundhead and redolent Pelargonium smell like rose, crisped one smells like lemon, nectarean has a smell of nutmeg, pannose one smells like mint.

Dear Maven - Food Safety

Dear Maven,

I see that many of the holders this season are shown with candy and food. What, if any, testing was done to ensure this is safe for my family?

So glad you’re thinking about your customers’ safety and cleanliness. Once again, we haven’t let you down. All of the holders shown are compliant with stringent industry standards set by ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) for food.

I know this seems like common sense, but you just gotta say it to some people, so we recommend hand washing (avoid the dishwasher—those things are so high-powered nowadays) using a mild soap and drying. You wouldn’t eat from it before washing it would you? I didn’t think so! Again, not to insult your intelligence, but our holders are not oven or microwave safe either.

Candle Quote

The other day when I was walking through the woods, I saw a rabbit standing in front of a candle making shadows of people on a tree.
