Scents and Memories

Recently a discussion came up on a message board with candle sellers from all companies talking about how scents affect memories.  The scent you associate with a parent, with an event, etc.  These are unique to everyone.

One that comes to mind for me is this: Lilac's remind me of being a kid cuz we had huge lilac bushes in our front yard. It was part of spring to go out there and cut some down and bring them in the house. But we had to be careful of bees. Those things were probably 8 feet tall (granted, I was only 4 feet tall)

What scents have memories associated with them for you?

  1. hmmm....good question!

The scent of a particular illegal drug makes me think of an uncle of mine.

Soldering metal reminds me of visiting my dad at his work when I was little (he worked in a foundry).
